Advocate Amrit Kharel is a leading legal practitioner, policy researcher, and academic based in Kathmandu. He serves as the Chairperson, Managing Partner of Juris Nepal Law Associates Pvt. Ltd., where he leads the firm's core practices in litigation, corporate advisory, and regulatory affairs.


With over 12 years of experience in litigation, he is licensed to practice before the Supreme Court of Nepal. His work spans a broad array of legal fields, including aviation accident claims, corporate and commercial law, capital markets, financial derivatives, insurance and banking law, investment arbitration, and international trade regulation.


Academic and Professional Background

Amrit Kharel holds an LL.M. in International and Commercial Law from Tribhuvan University, where he graduated top of his batch 2015 and was awarded the Nepal Vidya Bhushan “Kha” Gold Medal by the President of Nepal in recognition of academic excellence.


He served for several years as an Assistant Professor of Law at Tribhuvan University, where he taught subjects such as International Economic Law, Commercial Law, and Legal Theory. He taught at Prithvi Narayan Campus in Pokhara, one of the largest constituent campuses of Tribhuvan University, before choosing voluntary retirement to fully dedicate himself to professional legal practice and policy research.


In addition to his legal practice, he is a certified translator and licensed Notary Public, registered with the Notary Public Council of Nepal.


Policy and Advisory Engagements

Appointed as Coordinator of the Committee on Commodity Derivatives and Futures Regulation, commissioned by the Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) to frame policies for Nepal’s emerging financial markets.


Served as a legal researcher for the Revenue Mobilization Special Committee for Fiscal Federalism, submitting critical reform recommendations to the Ministry of Finance.


Acted as an Independent Expert Director at Prime Life Insurance Co. Ltd., offering guidance on regulatory compliance and corporate governance.


Conducted a major research project on Agricultural Trade Policies and Food Security in Nepal, funded by the WTO Chairs Programme in 2024, focusing on trade liberalization, WTO commitments, and national food policy reform.
